Tanvi Sharma moved into the women’s singles quarterfinals at the Korea Masters after overcoming compatriot Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 in Asan. The 57-minute win extended Sharma’s strong run following her Taipei Open title triumph and placed her among three Indian players to reach the last eight.
Ashmita Chaliha and Rakshitha Ramraj also advanced in women’s singles, while Anmol Kharb, Isharani Baruah and Mansi Singh exited the tournament after closely contested matches.
Sharma recovers before taking control in decider
Sharma had to respond after falling 11-7 behind in the opening game against Valishetty. She wrested back control with a string of points and went on to secure the first game 21-16.
Valishetty answered in the second game, establishing an 11-6 advantage at the interval before seeing out the game 21-17 to level the match. The result sent the all-Indian contest into a deciding game.
Sharma took charge from the outset of the decider. She led 11-9 at the interval and then pulled away decisively, conceding only four further points as she completed a 21-13 third-game win. The victory sent her through to the quarterfinals of the Korea Masters.
Chaliha joined Sharma in the last eight with a straight-games victory over home favourite Kim Min-ji. Chaliha won 21-17, 21-6. Ramraj also progressed in two games, defeating Japan’s Manami Suizu 22-20, 21-10.
Anmol’s comeback falls short as other Indian campaigns end
Anmol Kharb’s Korea Masters campaign ended in the pre-quarterfinals with a 23-21, 15-21, 21-18 defeat to Vietnam’s Vu Thi Trang at Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium. Anmol was in control for much of the first game but gave up four game points, allowing Vu Thi Trang to take the early advantage.
The Indian responded in the second game after holding an 11-9 lead at the interval, taking it 21-15 to force a decider. In the third game, Anmol trailed 19-9 before producing a late run of eight consecutive points. The recovery was not enough, however, as Vu Thi Trang closed out the match to progress.
Fifth seed Isharani Baruah also bowed out after losing 17-21, 21-18, 21-19 to Korea’s Kim Min-sun. Mansi Singh was beaten 21-12, 14-21, 21-17 by fourth seed Han Qianxi of China.
Sharma, Chaliha and Ramraj will therefore carry India’s women’s singles challenge into the Korea Masters quarterfinals. Sharma’s three-game win was the latest result in her run after the Taipei Open title, while Chaliha and Ramraj reached the next round without dropping a game.
